My Wedding Site was Nominated for an Awwward

December 4th, 2013  by Blaine Garrett

I got married in June to, among other things, an amazing designer. So of course our wedding website had to be amazing. In fact, the site her and I put together was so amazing, it was nominated for an Awwward. Click the screenshot to view our wedding website:

Teamwork!

This was the first website that Katie and I collaborated on. She developed the design and graphics. I created the hand drawn elements and did the HTML/JS/CSS. It worked quite well. It was interesting to go back and forth certain things. With her being a designer and it being static content, she cared a lot about things like where exactly breaks occurred. Whereas, me being a web developer cared about responsiveness and load times. In the end we made something great and had a lot of fun doing it.

About Awwwards

Awwards is a nomination based award site that highlights great graphic design on the web. Nominees are judged on a set of criteria that include usability, design, creativity, and content. Members of the site vote along side a panel of professional judges. In all four categories we received a rating between a 6 and a 7. Not too shabby for our first collaborative effort.

Some features of the design

  • Single page design with dynamic in-page scroll navigation
  • Responsive design to work well with mobile browsers
  • Fully custom Bootstrap layout including hand drawn elements and a scan of our stamp
  • Static HTML for speedy load times
  • Works in IE8+ so even Grandma can see it on her XP machine
