Here is a sneak preview of the cover art for Ash St. John's newest album "Dreams Made Real".
Ash St. John is an award winning singer/songwriter from Minneapolis. After a successful Kickstarter, his new album "Dreams Made Real" is due out Spring '14. I was honored that he approached me a few weeks ago about designing the album cover. He gave me some creative freedom and the album to listen to and I came up with a couple concepts.
For the final concept, I worked off a picture from a photoshoot of his. Having seen him live a number of times (including at my wedding ceremony), the photo captured the strength he has while on stage. I also, wanted to take this opportunity to experiment more with stencils mixed with other media. What I ended up with was a 3 color stencil sprayed atop a mixture of colored inks and white acrylic paint for a dreamy background layer. The fence was actually part of the original photo that I wanted to work in as it gave a nice horizontal slice and the dark area below created a good spot for the cover text. The fence was a big challenge as the stencil was very "lacey". Aside from a little bleeding of colors, I think it turned out pretty damn great. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Also, if you want to pick up his album, keep checking Ash's website. Also, check out my art group Dim Media if you are looking for custom designs for your band.
